The Planning Cooperative

We are a small specialiast consultancy working in both the public and private sectors to improve the theory and practice of town planning in the UK. Although a limited company the practice is a registered cooperative.

We each run an individual office, close to where we live, coming together to provide training and other work as necessary. This minimises the environmental impact of the office space and allows all members of the practice to walk or cycle to work. It has also allowed the practice to establish a national presence despite the small number of people involved.

The three founding directors Ian Davison, Dave Hickling and Richard Silson have remained with the practice since 1991, welcoming Veronica Jones in 2000 who became a fourth director in 2006, and joined by Mick McLoughlin as an associate in 2006. We are all chartered planners with a shared wealth of experience in public sector planning, as well as main stream private sector work in conventional planning consultancy.
